Sometimes when people think of missionaries, they put them on a pedestal and think that they are somehow different from anyone else in the church, but this is not true! They are all ordinary people working with an extraordinary God – and we’ve had many such ordinary people come through Emanate to be equipped for ministry. Let’s check in with Dennis and Valerie Easton and see how our extraordinary God is working in their lives and how He used their time at Emanate to prepare them!

Q: Where are you from?

A: Dennis is from Ontario and Valerie grew up in Nebraska. We met at a Bible college in Ontario.

Q: When did you graduate from Emanate?

A: We graduated in 2009.

Q: Where are you now?

A: We live in Mountain Province, Philippines.

Q: What are you up to these days?

A: Right now we are working as church planters among the Ga’dang people. We are looking forward to sharing the chronological lessons to this village for the first time in January of 2020, Lord willing!

Q: What did you learn at Emanate that helped prepare you for your ministry?

A: Emanate gave us the training we needed to prepare us for many aspects of the mission field.  We felt very adequately equipped with the tools we needed to tackle culture and language study.  We also appreciated the emphasis on relationship building within teams and with those to whom we were going to minister—we felt that it was nicely balanced with being spiritually prepared for the ministry and not just theoretically ready.  Of course there were many practical skills that we acquired while in training too—tech tips, carpentry skills and planning meals and supplies, etc. We also enjoyed the spiritual encouragement we received from our trainers and classmates.

Q: How can we be praying for you?

A: Please pray for the teaching happening soon. Pray that the people will have open hearts to hear the Good News! Please pray for our transition as a team; we welcomed new co-workers, Polter and Claudia Pulac, to the work in November 2019.

Don’t miss the wonder of all this.  This month, the Ga’dang people are beginning to hear the story of God’s redemption for the first time!  Please be praying for the Easton family and all that God is doing through them. And subscribe here to hear more about what God is doing through ordinary people.
